ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: HOW “ARTIFICIAL” IS IT REALLY?
We participated in episode 9 of the podcast “Let's Talk Privacy” with Javier Masache, audiovisual producer, Ola Bini, CTO of Centro de Autonomía Digital (CAD) and Diana Mosquera from Diversa. Our conversation navigated the intersection of artificial intelligence, algorithms and data privacy. The discussion traced the historical roots of AI from Alan Turing's groundbreaking 1950 paper to the technology boom of the 2010s, examining how linguistic models have evolved and the ethical challenges they pose. We highlighted concerns about data mining from countries in the Global South and critiqued technosolutionism, the belief that technology alone can solve complex social problems.
Key topics included the environmental impacts of AI systems, the ethical implications of using personal data to train algorithms, the proliferation of deepfakes, and the urgent need for regulation. This conversation reinforced our commitment to developing and advocating for AI systems that serve communities ethically, respect data privacy, and address global inequities in technological development.
