Hidden Geographies of Artificial Intelligence
We are delighted to have participated in the FemTech – Feminist Tech program, held in Stockholm! This space was organized by the Digital Futures Lab Research Center, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and Stockholm University, bringing together researchers, activists, and doctoral students from different parts of the world to critically examine the relationship between technology, feminisms, and justice.
During our participation, we facilitated a workshop titled Hidden Geographies of Artificial Intelligence, where we collectively explored AI's value chain. We reflected on everything that invisibly sustains these systems: extracted territories, natural resources, energy infrastructure, precarious and hidden labor, data centers, model training and deployment. We conducted a collective mapping exercise to make this complete cycle visible and, additionally, we built together a resistance map: projects, organizations, and communities that are imagining other possible technologies that are more just and more responsible.
