International Meeting on Artificial Intelligence and Its Applications

As co-organizers of the RIIAA 5, we had a significant role at this year's meeting hosted at Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ). This gathering brought together diverse actors from across Latin America's AI ecosystem, connecting academic, government, and industry communities to catalyze regional AI development and adaptation. During the event, we shared Diversa's experience working at the intersection of technology and social impact, exploring the distinct challenges and opportunities of developing AI from Ecuador and other Latin American contexts. Our participation emphasized the importance of strengthening connections between local innovations and global advancements while ensuring technology responds to regional needs.

We led specialized workshops including 'The Hidden Geographies of AI,' which examined the often invisible spatial politics of AI development, and 'Designing AI with an Inclusive Perspective,' where participants learned practical approaches to creating technology that responds to diverse contexts and community needs. Both sessions attracted participants from various sectors, fostering cross-disciplinary dialogue essential for responsible AI advancement in the region.
