COURSE: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ETHICS
Training for faculty and doctoral students at FLACSO Ecuador
During the first semester of 2025, we facilitated a course on Artificial Intelligence Ethics at FLACSO Ecuador, aimed at faculty and students in graduate programs. The objective was to create a critical training space that would allow understanding the multiple impacts of AI on our societies, from a situated, interdisciplinary perspective with an emphasis on social justice.
Throughout the course, we collectively reflected on what we understand by artificial intelligence, who develops it, with what data, for what purposes, and at what cost. We discussed the social, epistemic, and ecological risks of developing these technologies, but also the possibilities of designing and using AI in a responsible, fair, and contextualized manner. Beyond the dominant technoscientific perspective, we worked with approaches that address AI as a political phenomenon, traversed by power relations, historical inequalities, and forms of knowledge that often remain outside of design and decision-making.
We thank FLACSO and all the participants for opening this space for collective learning.
