In the edition n.º 13 of Revista Públicos, we participated with an article in the Debate section to reflect on the impact of artificial intelligence on the art world. Our text addresses how large technology companies have trained their models with millions of works by visual artists, writers, and creators, often without their consent or recognition. This phenomenon has sparked a profound discussion about copyright, intellectual property, and the value of creative work in the age of AI. While some actors like The New York Times can take legal action to defend their content, the vast majority of independent artists lack the resources or support to do the same. This inequality accentuates a worrying gap: who can protect their work, and who is exposed to digital extractivism?
